We all know that staying hydrated is very important, even during the colder months. In fact, according to a study, the risk of becoming dehydrated in winter actually increases as we don't feel as thirsty as we do during the summer months.
Thus it's vital to ensure that we're keeping hydrated in the winter. Here are our top tips for keeping on top of your winter hydration.

KEEP YOUR REUSABLE WATER BOTTLE ON HAND
We keep losing water throughout the day, even when the temperature drops. So our number one tip would be to drink water regularly. A great way to combat fluid loss and stay hydrated during winter is to keep a reusable water bottle on you and top it up throughout the day.
EAT MORE WATER-BASED FOOD
Eating five small meals a day is a great way to ensure your body gets the nutrients it needs and stays hydrated.
Fact: Fruits and vegetables have a high-water content, for example, a tomato is 95% water, while broccoli contains 91% water. Vegetable-packed soups and stews are warm, healthy and comforting and another great way to up your fluid intake.
DRINK HERBAL TEA
Herbal teas are a great way to stay hydrated during the cold winter months without relying on caffeine-based coffee and tea. Made from the leaves of plants such as chamomile, mint, and sage, they have a lovely aroma and taste. Added bonus: they have medicinal purposes as well.
CUT BACK ON SALT
If you cannot cut it out, cut it down. Salt causes the body to lose fluids and could lead to dehydration. When consuming salty foods, it is best to have a glass of water on hand to maintain a healthy balance.
Try to steer clear of pre-made packaged foods - although they are convenient, they are packed with salts and sugars to prolong the shelf-life.
Make your food from scratch and monitor the amount of salt used to season.
DRINK BEFORE MEALS
It is all too easy to simply forget to drink water throughout the day, an easy way to remember is to associate drinking water with regular activities, such as drinking a glass before each meal. It’s an easy habit to create and one that will ensure you stay hydrated throughout the day, every day.
SET AN ALARM
Sometimes we all need a little reminder or two about things we need to do. So why not set an alarm to remind yourself to drink at least one glass of water every 1.5 hours.
Doing this will ensure you remain hydrated and consume a decent amount of water throughout the day.
As the amount of water required by the body tends to differ from one person to another, it is usually suggested to drink to your thirst, and also include other fluids and foods with high water content in your diet.
